Benchmark Body Composition DEXA Scan

The Body Composition DEXA Scan is included in the Benchmark Proactive Health Assessment. We also offer it as a standalone assessment, to both new and returning Benchmark Members.
This full-body scan takes <10 minutes, and includes:
Lean Mass:
Total lean mass & by bodily region, an important indicator of overall health
Body Fat, including estimated VAT:
Body fat mass, body fat %, and fat distribution by bodily region
Estimated Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT), a harmful type of fat surrounding your organs and a key indicator of metabolic health
Bone Density:
Total bone mineral density & bone mineral content by region
Note: this will not diagnose osteoporosis or osteopenia

What to Know Before Your Scan
The entire appointment will take about 30 minutes; please arrive a few minutes early
The scan typically takes about 5 minutes, while you lie still on the table
It involves a very small amount of radiation, less than what you'd receive on a cross-country flight
Wear a single layer of comfortable clothing
DO NOT wear metal -- no zippers, no underwire bra
You'll remove jewelry (including all piercings) and accessories
You'll remove shoes and outerwear
Avoid an intense workout, a large meal, or drinking a large amount of water prior to scan
We will review your report with you following your scan, to help you understand it
Note: The scan cannot be done if you are (or may be) pregnant, or if your weight exceeds 350 lbs.
